鈥�听having regard to its previous resolutions on Iran,

鈥�听having regard to the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights calling for an investigation into the mysterious poisoning of Iranian school girls of 3 March 2022,

鈥�听having regard to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948,

鈥�听having regard to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of 1966,

鈥�听having regard to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women of 1979,

鈥�听having regard to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989,

鈥�听having regard to Rule 132(2) of its Rules of Procedure,

1. whereas over 1000 school-aged girls from more than 200 schools across 25 provinces in Iran have reported to be sick, including suffering respiratory problems, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue due to poisoning with many girls hospitalised since November 2022; whereas there have also been cases of poisonings amongst school-aged boys and teachers, as well as amongst parents who were present on school campuses at the times of attacks;

听

2. whereas it remains unclear what chemical substance might have been used; whereas parents across Iran have pulled their daughters out of school due to the fear of poisoning and the lack of credible information or any assurances from the Iranian authorities;

听

3. whereas interior minister Ahmad Vahidi, who has been tasked to investigate the poisonings, outrageously claimed that the girls became sick because of stress and anxiety and not by 鈥榚xternal factors鈥� such as poisoning; whereas 30 Iranian toxicologists in the Health Ministry believe that the poisoning may be due to nitrogen gas;

听

4. whereas the authorities have arrested over 100 people over the suspected poisonings; whereas despite the Iranian authorities鈥� claims, suspisions have arisen that the suspected poisonings of girls and women are a response to the months of women-led protests against the the Iranian regime and compulsory veiling in the wake of Mahsa Amini鈥檚 death;

听

1. Strongly condemns the cases of poisoning at schools in Iran and expresses its solidarity with all those affected; stresses that the poisonings are in violation of the rights to safe education;
2. Calls for an urgent, independent and international investigation into the poisonings and for those responsible to be held to account; underlines that the rights of girls and boys must be respected, including their
3. Stresses that the poisonings may not be used as a pretext by the Iranian regime to unlawfully and unjustly persecute anti-regime protesters;
4. Reiterates its support for the aspirations of the Iranian people who want to live in a free, inclusive and democratic country;
5. Calls on the Council to impose further sanctions on the IRGC and Iranian officials responsible for grave human rights violations in the country; recalls to list the IRGC on the EU terror list;
6. Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Vice-President of the Commission听/听High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Commission and the Council.
