The growth rate for Morocco and Egypt, although decreasing from 2023, remains at 2.8 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively. The GDP growth rate of Tunisia and the EU is up compared to 2023, but still below 2 percent, standing at 1.6 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively. In the past two years, Egypt has experienced a rapid increase in inflation and fluctuations in its exchange rate. The inflation rate for 2024 was 33.3%. Trade in goods and services shows a steady and sustained increase from 2007 to the present. Among the three states compared, Morocco is the primary partner in trade for goods, while Egypt leads in services.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2025 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Thu, 27 Feb 2025 23:00:00 GMT EPRS_ATA(2025)767203_LT_20250228 Briefing - BRICS+: Economic indicators and trade with EU - 24-09-2024 /thinktank/lt/document/EPRS_BRI(2024)762324 Our infographic shows the overview of the BRICS+ countries’ economic and trade relations with the EU. All 9 BRICS+ states have experienced a relatively consistent increase in their GDP per capita (PPP) since 2007. Female labour force participation rates vary significantly from country to country. At the extremes are Iran with 14.4, and Ethiopia, with 74.8%. EU trade in goods (imports and exports) with the BRICS+ countries has risen steadily comparatively to 2007 volumes. The BRICS+ group is now the EU's main trading partner for goods. Mechanical appliances and electrical equipment, vehicles and aircraft, and pharmaceutical products comprise about 54% of all goods exported by the EU to the BRICS+ countries.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2024 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Mon, 23 Sep 2024 22:00:00 GMT EPRS_BRI(2024)762324_LT_20240924 Glaustai - Nigeria: Economic indicators and trade with EU - 07-03-2023 /thinktank/lt/document/EPRS_ATA(2023)739345 Our infographic provides an insight into the economic performance of Nigeria compared to the EU, and looks at the trade dynamics between the two. While GDP growth in Nigeria recovered quickly after a slight recession in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a growing unemployment rate combined with rising inflation represent an economic challenge to the African country. Nigeria is an oil exporter, and the absence of local oil refinery capacities provides an opportunity for some EU Member States - mainly Belgium and the Netherlands - to import crude oil and re-export it to Nigeria after refining. The trade in petroleum oils represents 93 % of total EU imports and 53 % of total EU exports of goods to Nigeria.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2023 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Mon, 06 Mar 2023 23:00:00 GMT EPRS_ATA(2023)739345_LT_20230307 Tyrimas - Food security and nutrition as keys to human development - 31-07-2022 /thinktank/lt/document/EXPO_STUD(2022)702566 The increase of severe food insecurity is a major point of concern. At the request of the ºÏ·¨²©²ÊÍøվ’s Development committee, two briefings were prepared to explore the role of food security and nutrition as basic interventions in development policies. By drawing on a series of ‘stories from the field’, the first briefing showed the importance of focusing on supporting local food systems, while incorporating a household-centric view of crop diversification and resilience. The second briefing built further on those field insights to formulate a set of critical policy principles that can generate a sustained impact, and be applied to all food security programming environments, from relief to development to fragile food system environments resulting from extreme weather, pandemics, or violent conflict. The aspects raised by the briefings were further discussed at a DEVE hearing on ‘food security and nutrition as keys to human development’, which brought together various international and regional experts. This report presents the briefings together with the hearing report to highlight key aspects in the execution of the ‘right to food’ principle and the commitments from the Food Systems and Nutrition for Growth Summits as well as good practices in achieving food and nutrition security in different countries.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2022 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Tue, 30 Aug 2022 22:00:00 GMT EXPO_STUD(2022)702566_LT_20220731 Briefing - Human development in Putin's Russia: What the data tell us - 21-04-2022 /thinktank/lt/document/EPRS_BRI(2022)729375 While the UN Human Development Index, which assesses progress in the standard of living, health and education, ranks Russia among the 'very high human development' countries, other data suggest a more nuanced reality. Russia has gone from Soviet-era egalitarianism to extremes of wealth and poverty. Economic growth during the first decade under Vladimir Putin's leadership slightly reduced the gap between rich and poor, but inequality is still higher than in most developed countries. Factors such as corruption and low taxes for the rich exacerbate the income gap. Free public healthcare and a relatively inclusive education system apparently mitigate inequality. However, many hospitals are ill-equipped, and universities struggle to compare with foreign counterparts. Since 2014 and the invasion of Crimea, Russians' living conditions have deteriorated. Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine and the imposition of Western sanctions is already placing a burden on the poorest members of Russian society, as prices increase and staple goods begin to run out. The social contract between Russians and Putin, often considered as one in which citizens ceded certain freedoms and civil liberties in exchange for stability and prosperity, is now under strain. This briefing is partly based on and updates previous EPRS publications on socioeconomic inequality and on the education system.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2022 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Wed, 20 Apr 2022 22:00:00 GMT EPRS_BRI(2022)729375_LT_20220421 Tyrimas - The Joint Africa-EU Strategy - 15-11-2017 /thinktank/lt/document/EXPO_STU(2017)603849 Implementation of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES) has taken place in a rapidly evolving political scenario at the global level and specifically within Europe and Africa. The overarching objectives identified in 2007 still remain valid, but concrete priorities now need to be adapted to the new reality. At the strategic level, a refinement of the Africa-EU partnership has become urgent following the adoption of Agenda 2063 and the EU Global Strategy. At policy level, lessons learned from the implementation of the Roadmap 2014-17 and the way ahead indicated in the Joint Communication of May 2017 should be taken into account. Ten years after its adoption and with a view to the next AU-EU Summit, being held in Abidjan on 29-30 November 2017, it is crucial to re-assess the strategy’s validity on the basis of achievements and shortfalls, also in its parliamentary dimension, with regard to the fulfilment of its objectives in an evolving context.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2017 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Tue, 14 Nov 2017 23:00:00 GMT EXPO_STU(2017)603849_LT_20171115 Glaustai - New priorities for EU–Africa cooperation - 08-11-2017 /thinktank/lt/document/EPRS_ATA(2017)608801 As the EU and Africa prepare to redefine their priorities for cooperation under the framework of the Africa-EU Joint Strategy adopted ten years ago, the European ºÏ·¨²©²ÊÍøÕ¾ will debate, during the first November plenary session, a resolution outlining its position on the issue, ahead of the EU-Africa summit scheduled for the end of November. This summit will focus on the need to invest in youth. The issue has become prominent against the background of demographic growth in Africa and increasing irregular migration from the continent to Europe.

Å altinis : © Europos SÄ…junga, 2017 - EP Dokumentai - Think Tank - Europos Parlamentas Wed, 08 Nov 2017 14:31:00 GMT EPRS_ATA(2017)608801_LT_20171108
