Each plenary session, DG COMM assembles public opinion data related to key agenda topics:
- European Council meeting / European defence: Close to eight in ten Europeans (79%) are for a common defence and security policy among EU Member States. In all 27 EU Member States a majority of respondents are for a common defence and security policy among EU Member States, with proportions ranging from 87% in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Lithuania, to 57% in Malta, 64% in Ireland and 65% in Portugal. EU citizens believe that security and defence (33%) should be the first priority area in which the EU takes measures in the years to come. ()
- Accelerating the phase-out of Russian energy commodities in the EU: Nearly three-quarters of Europeans (73%) are for a common energy policy among EU Member States. Around eight in ten Europeans (79%) also agree that the EU should reduce its dependency on Russian sources of energy as soon as possible. () Almost nine in ten EU citizens (87%) think that new technologies in the field of renewable energies will have a positive effect on our way of life in the next 20 years. 56% think the same of nuclear energy for energy production. ()
- Union of Skills: The survey finds that for young people, aged 16-30, the most important benefit of EU membership is linked to increased opportunities to study, volunteer, work and travel abroad. A dedicated among European SMEs finds that 'difficulties in finding employees with the right skills' is identified as (one of) the most serious problem(s) they currently face.
- Critical Medicines Act: Almost two-thirds of people are in favour of a common EU health policy. Support is highest in Cyprus (89%), Malta (84%) and Greece (82%) and lowest in Finland (49%), Sweden (48%) and Denmark (33%). ()
