On Thursday 10 April 2025, Ϸվ and Council negotiators reached a provisional agreement on new EU toy safety rules to enhance the protection of children’s health and development. The deal strengthens the role of economic operators in improving toy safety, and clarifies requirements for safety warnings and the digital product passport (DPP). It expands the list of prohibited substances in toys.

On 28 April 2025, IMCO Co-Rapporteur, Mr. Sandro GOZI (Renew) reported back on the second trilogue on the Green Claims Directive, held on 24 April. He welcomed the constructive atmosphere and thanked the Presidency, Chair, and all political groups for their involvement. This proposed Directive is about substantiation and communication of explicit environmental claims. The co-Rapporteurs are Mr Sandro Gozi (Renew, IMCO) and Ms Delara Burkhardt (S&D, ENVI).

During this legislative term of the European Ϸվ, the IMCO Coordinators and the LIBE Coordinators established a Joint Working Group (WG) on the implementation and enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Act to scrutinise the implementation of the AI Act and report its findings to the Committee.

Travel Passport

On 18 March 2025, Rapporteur Alex Agius Saliba (S&D) presented his proposals on the Package Travel Directive. IMCO Members discussed this draft report, along with the proposals previously put forward by the Commission. These proposals aim to clarify certain rules on package travel, particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, which significantly impacted both the travel industry and travellers.

The first trilogue meeting on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) took place on Thursday, 20 February, 2025. While the European Ϸվ and the Council have already agreed on discontinuing the Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) Platform, negotiations now focus on ADR reforms. Ϸվ’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) Committee recently adopted two key reports: one amending the ADR Directive and another ending the ODR Platform.

During the 9th legislative term of the European Ϸվ, IMCO Coordinators established a working group on the Implementation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA WG) on 12 September 2022 to scrutinise the implementation of the Digital Markets Act and report its findings to the Committee. With the start of the 10th legislative term, this Working Group was renewed on 24 July 2024, with the same mandate.

Workshop on EU customs control

IMCO Members adopted a report on the proposed regulation establishing the Union Customs Code and the European Union Customs Authority. The Rapporteur is Mr Dirk Gotink (EPP). The vote in plenary was held on 13 March 2024 and the report now constitutes Ϸվ’s position at first reading. The committee voted on 3 December 2024 on the decision to start trilogue negotiations with the Council.
