Welcome to the website of the Committee on Petitions (PETI)

The Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights confer on all citizens and residents of the European Union the right to submit a petition to the European ºÏ·¨²©²ÊÍøÕ¾, individually or with others, on any matter which comes within the European Union's fields of activity and directly affects them.
Petitions received are examined by the Committee on Petitions, which is responsible for following up on them. Thus, our committee acts as a bridge between Europeans and the EU institutions, bringing citizens' concerns to the attention of their representatives.
Petitions are not only an instrument of participatory democracy, but also a source of information on instances of misapplication or breaches of EU law. Therefore, our committee plays a key role in addressing problems concerning the implementation of EU legislation.
Just as importantly, our committee gives voice to citizens, who put forward their ideas for policy initiatives and thus contribute to ºÏ·¨²©²ÊÍøÕ¾'s legislative work.
I encourage you to exercise your fundamental right to petition and I hope that you will follow closely the work that our committee does on your behalf!
