Cruinnithe leis na Parlaimintí Náisiúnta
FEMM

On Thursday, 7 March 2024, to celebrate International Women's Day 2024, the FEMM Committee, in collaboration with the National Ϸվs, organised an inter-parliamentary committee (ICM) meeting on the topic "Women in Sport".
Women in sport are fighting to ensure that their achievements are recognised equally to their male counterparts, breaking down stereotypes in certain sports that are typically seen as a man's world. Report on abuse scandals affecting women in sports in a variety of fields are well known, as well as the fight of women for equal financial rewards and status. We looked into the issues, as well as celebrated and acknowledged the strides taken and progress made in this field, especially in the context of next year's Paris Olympic Games. The values of sportsmanship, teamwork, as well as social responsibility through sport are respected worldwide.
The purpose of the event was to exchange views with experts and representatives of national parliaments on the situation of women in sport today. The ICM explored how women in sport have gained ground, yet still face specific hurdles, and discuss the way forward.
