ENVI exchange of views with Dr. Bernhard Url, Acting Executive Director of EFSA

On 8 April, ENVI will hold its annual exchange of views with Dr. Bernhard Url, Acting Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), to discuss key food and feed safety issues, as well as EFSA鈥檚 latest risk assessments.
After 10 years as EFSA Executive Director, Dr Url has taken up the position of Acting Executive Director from 1 June 2024. During this exchange, Dr. Url is expected to outline EFSA's strategic priorities and policy developments. Members will have the opportunity to discuss several food and feed safety topics such as pesticides, new genomic techniques (NGTs) and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), food additives, food packaging, and chemical contaminants. EFSA has provided the EP with a number of scientific opinions in recent years on legislative files such NGTs, and are currently undertaking a study for the EP on the long-term toxic and/or carcinogenic effects of plant protection products.
