BUDG-CONT - Lessons learnt from the Rule of Law Conditionality Regulation - 7.4.25

On 7 April 2025, the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Budgetary Control held a joint public hearing on the "Lessons learnt from the Rule of Law Conditionality Mechanism and ways to make it more effective for the future".
Four years after the entry into force of the Rule of law conditionality Regulation, Members heard from different stakeholders how they assess the functioning of the legislation, including its impact on the ground, and discussed how the functioning of the mechanism could be improved going forward.
The hearing, which complements the recent exchange of views with Commissioner Serafin on the implementation of the Rule of Law Conditionality Regulation, fed into the forthcoming BUDG-CONT implementation report on the Conditionality Regulation.
