Members from the Special Committee on Foreign Interference travelled to Kyiv on 20-21 February to discuss with their Ukrainian counterparts strategies and practices to counter Russian interference. The mission enabled Members to get a better understanding on how the EU institutions could be better equipped to provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine in fighting Russian information manipulation and interference.

The delegation met with the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister for Energy Herman Halushchenko, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Kornienko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Igor Zhovka, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksiy Danilov, as well as Members of the Rada, different Ukrainian authorities and civil society organisations. Members discussed with their Ukrainian counterparts about issues related to Russian interference, such as information manipulation, cybersecurity and the protection of critical infrastructure. Discussions also centred on exploring possible avenues to deepen the cooperation and coordination with the EU. Further meetings were held on the recent media reform law and recent developments on anti-corruption.
