Delegation for relations with the United States

The inter-parliamentary relationship between the European Ϸվ and the United States Congress is the longest and most intense in the history of the European Ϸվ, dating back continuously to 1972. In 1999, the parliamentary relationship became stronger when both delegations decided to launch the Transatlantic Legislators' Dialogue (TLD).
The TLD constitutes the formal response of the European Ϸվ and the US Congress to the commitment in the New Transatlantic Agenda (NTA) of 1995, to enhance parliamentary ties between the EU and the United States.
Subsequently, TLD activities expanded in order to include videoconferences, special working groups on subjects of particular interest, as well as a facilitating role for direct exchanges between legislative committees of the European Ϸվ and the US Congress.
TLD representatives were also part of the Advisory Group instituted within the Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC), launched by the EU and the US in 2007. From 2012 onwards, the TLD focused a lot of its attention on the negotiations for a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
Aside from trade and economic issues, foreign, security and defence policies have also always been very high on the TLD agenda. Other transatlantic topics regularly discussed include energy, the digital economy, counterterrorism, cyber security, election interference and misinformation/disinformation, as well as data policy.
