International Health Regulations

On 1 June 2024, at the World Health Assembly, WHO counties adopted , in order to strengthen reparedness for and response to
global public health emergencies. The EU itself is not in a position to accede to the IHR, as the Regulations do not provide for the possibility of accession by regional economic integration organisations.However, Council can authorise EU Member States (who are all Parties of the IHR), acting jointly in the interest of the Union, to accept the amendments, through a Council Decision. Before its adoption, the European Ϸվ must first give its consent.
