MEPs to debate future Oceans Pact 

On Wednesday afternoon, MEPs will discuss the upcoming Oceans Pact, which is to bring together all ocean-related EU policies and boost the ‘blue economy’.

The pact was announced last year by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her . The goal is to protect the health of the EU’s oceans and seas, while also ensuring the competitiveness of its fisheries and aquaculture sectors, and coastal communities.

Fisheries and Oceans is expected to unveil this plan in the coming months. The Oceans Pact is part of a wider EU strategy to be announced at the , which is taking place in Nice, France, between 9 and 13 June 2025.
