Savings and investments union: MEPs to debate new Commission initiative
On Monday, MEPs and the Commission will discuss new plans to help citizens turn their savings into profitable investments.
MEPs will question the Commission on Monday on the recently unveiled initiative, which is about creating financial opportunities for retail investors in the EU and reducing the heavy dependence of small businesses and start-ups on bank loans.
The debate will explore safeguards to help people invest safely and affordably, with possible measures including EU savings and investment accounts and a new financial literacy strategy. MEPs may also address the main obstacles to investment, such as the fragmentation of EU financial markets, the lack of harmonised supervision and weak investor confidence.
Debate: Monday, 31 March
Procedure: Commission statement, no resolution
