Malta's ‘golden passport’ scheme circumventing EU sanctions against Russia
On Wednesday, Ϸվ will discuss the follow-up to the EU Court of Justice verdict that Malta’s citizenship by investment programme is illegal.
MEPs will discuss with Council and Commission representatives on Wednesday how to react to the EU Court of Justice ruling that , and more generally how to tackle issues arising from citizenship by investment (CBI) and residence by investment (RBI) programmes.
Three years since Ϸվ demanded a ban on ‘golden passports’ and specific rules for ‘golden visas’, MEPs are expected to focus on the problem of such programmes being used to circumvent sanctions, not least since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and despite some action already taken by the member states concerned.
