Building European Leadership for the Second Quantum Revolution

Workshops STOA

The world is undergoing a second quantum revolution, its promise the ability to manipulate matter at its most fundamental, quantum, level. Quantum technologies will allow a wealth of applications, ranging from quantum computers able to perform complex calculations beyond the reach of conventional supercomputers, simulations able to open new avenues of research in material and biological sciences, sensors capable of looking inside cells, to eavesdrop-proof communications. Quantum technologies will play an important role in the next stages of the digital transition and form a key element of future European competitiveness, but as highlighted in the Draghi report European leadership in this field is still far from assured.

The European Union has taken considerable initiatives to promote the development of quantum technologies, such as supporting research via the , fomenting the development of a quantum communication infrastructure with , or deploying quantum accelerators with supercomputers of the . Most recently, the included measures to foster the manufacturing of quantum chips in the EU.

Building on the success of STOA's previous workshop on quantum technologies, this event aims to take a renewed look at the state of the art of quantum technologies, and discuss the EU's future strategic approach in this area as well as the upcoming Quantum Act.

Programme to be announced soon.
