Exchange of views on the situation of press freedom in the world

On 8 April 2025, the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) organised an exchange of views on the situation of press freedom in the world. The exchange featured representatives from international organisations, prominent journalists鈥� federations and organisations and empirical testimony.
Holding an exchange of views on the situation of press freedom in the world came at a crucial moment. In the current international environment, where press freedom and freedom of expression are increasingly being challenged, the DROI subcommittee aimed to emphasize that the protection of journalists must remain at priority.
Additionally, through this exchange, DROI aimed to highlight the integral role of journalists for the reinforcement of democracy, the rising trend of persecuting journalists and the importance of investigative news outlets that operate in adverse regions. The exchange also served as an opportunity to assess the toolbox that the international community has at its disposal to effectively protect journalists.
