In an exchange of views to take place on Tuesday, 13 May, MEPs will address the fight against trafficking of hazardous waste with representatives of public authorities and NGOs.

On April 23, 2025, Wojciech Wiewiórowski, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), appeared before the LIBE Committee to present the highlights of the EDPS 2024 Annual Report. His intervention provided an overview of the institution’s key activities and focus areas over the past year.

On April 23, 2025, Anu Talus, Chair of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), presented the Board’s 2024 Annual Report to the Members of the LIBE Committee. Her presentation highlighted the EDPB’s key achievements and strategic priorities over the past year.

LIBE Committee also discussed on 8 of April the progress in tackling drug trafficking and organised crime, focusing on the work of the EU Council’s Horizontal Working Party on Drugs (HDG) and insights from the European Commission.

On 8 April 2025, the LIBE Committee held a key exchange with representatives from the World Shipping Council and the European Sea Ports Organisation to discuss the European Ports Alliance and its Public-Private Partnership—a central initiative in the EU’s fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.

On 19 March, MEPs of the LIBE and CONT committees have discussed with Laura Codruța Kövesi, European Chief Prosecutor, the Annual activity report of the Office of European Public Prosecutor for the year 2024.

On 6 March 2025, the LIBE committee held an exchange of views on EU-Latin America cooperation on security matters and the role of parliamentary diplomacy, with the participation of the European Ϸվ’s Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Ϸվary Assembly (DLAT).

On 18 February, LIBE held a debate aimed to address the ongoing delays in the launch of the Entry/Exit System (EES), a critical element of the EU's border strategy and interoperability framework.

On 18 February, LIBE Members have exchanged on the topics of gender-based violence and the right to international protection of Afghan women and girls with representatives of the European Commission and the UNHCR Representation for EU Affairs.

In October 2023, the European Commission proposed the Migrant Smuggling Package, which includes a proposal for a Regulation on police cooperation and Europol support (Rapporteur Jeroen Lenaers, EPP) and a revision of the Facilitation Directive (Rapporteur Sippel, S&D). Notably, this package was introduced without an impact assessment.

On 27 January, Members exchanged with representatives from the Finnish Border Guard and the Commission, following the adoption in Finland of a temporary law, the Act on Temporary Measures to Combat Instrumentalised Migration.

On 27 January, the LIBE Committee held an exchange of views on the "Statutes of limitation in the EU for crimes of child sexual abuse". The aim was to shed light on the importance of the (appropriate length) of the limitation period when dealing with child sexual abuse crimes.
