Security and Defence Committee MEPs to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina
A delegation of Security and Defence Committee MEPs will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina from 24 to 27 February to discuss security challenges with the country’s political leadership.
During their meetings in the capital Sarajevo the delegation, led by Niclas Herbst (EPP, Germany), will re-confirm the European Ϸվ’s commitment to the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an EU candidate country. They will also hear from Bosnian representatives on the country’s evolving security situation. MEPs will meet with, among others, the representatives of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, High Representative Christian Schmidt, Defence Minister Zukan Helez, and Foreign Affairs Minister Elmedin Konaković. They will also assess the work of , which is the EU’s largest military deployment and oversees the military implementation of the Dayton peace agreement signed 1995 that ended the Bosnian War.
In addition to Mr Herbst, the delegation will comprise the following MEPs: Hélder Sousa Silva (EPP, Portugal), Marjan Šarec (Renew Europe, Slovenia) and Mārtiņš Staķis (The Greens/EFA, Latvia).
