The Trial. The State of Russia vs Oleg Sentsov (2017)

directed by Askold Kurov

The documentary, a co-production involving the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Russia and Ukraine, brings an unprecedented access to a Russian courtroom where Oleg Sentsov, the 2018 Sakharov Prize laureate, was tried for alleged terrorist activity in Crimea. It displays the background of the process against Sentsov, and reactions from a wide variety of people related to or touched by Oleg's story - his family, the international community of fellow film directors who campaigned for his release (including Agnieszka Holland and Wim Wenders), as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin.
